Bleaching

Teeth whitening with the bleaching method is a teeth whitening method applied by the dentist in a clinical setting. Today, it stands out as a reliable teeth whitening method with an increasing success rate with the developing technologies.

  • In this method, a protective layer is first made to protect the gums.
  • The bleaching chemical gel is applied to the exposed tooth surfaces by the dentist.
  • A special light source is kept on the teeth for a certain period of time.
  • The result can be seen immediately after the procedure.
  • After the necessary cleaning is done, the process is completed. Bleaching, which is very effective, usually gives results in a single session, while the number of sessions may increase depending on the degree of discoloration.

Why do unwanted stains occur on teeth?

There may be many reasons for this. The most common ones are; aging, consumption of substances that stain teeth (coffee, tea, cola, cigarettes, etc.), traumas, old prostheses, veneers, fillings. Consumption of antibiotics (tetracycline) or excessive fluoride used during the formation of teeth can also lead to discoloration of the teeth.

This may be due to the structure of the tooth, as well as due to the staining of dental factors, antibiotics or fluoride taken during the developmental period, old age, and a blow to the tooth.

Who can the whitening process be applied to?

Almost everyone! However, there are some situations where treatment may not be effective. Your dentist will determine whether the teeth are suitable for this procedure with a complete intraoral control and diagnosis. If your teeth are healthy, it is an ideal solution for a whiter and natural smile. The issue to be considered here is that the colors of porcelain teeth and fillings are fixed and will not whiten in whitening.

Although the materials used in bleaching are various, the most favorite ones today are those containing 35% hydrogen peroxide or the same amount of carbamide peroxide. Since office type whitening is usually done under the control of a physician, the percentage of obtaining the desired whiteness is much higher. Not every product sold under the name of whitening in the market should be sought after; Otherwise, it should always be considered that there may be permanent deterioration in our teeth, gums and enamel.

What are the Teeth Whitening Methods?

Three types of methods are used for this treatment.

1- Office bleaching (whitening done in the office under the control of a physician)

It is a whitening method performed by activating the bleaching agent applied on the teeth with a laser source. In laser whitening, the upper jaw can be whitened in half an hour and the lower jaw can be whitened in half an hour.

2-Home Bleaching (Home bleaching)

In this method, the dentist takes measurements from the teeth and transmits this measurement to the laboratory. From this measurement, a thin transparent plaque is prepared that fits perfectly on your teeth. Tooth whitening is performed by applying a tooth whitening agent to this plaque before going to bed at night. The whitening process takes place at night during sleep. The number of nights will be determined as a result of the examination by your doctor.

3-Devital Bleaching (Tooth whitening with root canal treatment)

How white will my teeth get?

The whitening of the teeth is primarily related to the initial colors. While yellow-toned teeth can easily whiten 6-8 shades, green-gray teeth are more difficult to whiten. In short, although the amount of whitening varies from person to person, your doctor will give you an approximate information about how much your teeth can whiten in the first session.

How will it be affected if I have sensitive teeth?

Less than 10% of the applied people may feel a slight tingling or sensitivity after the application. This is more common in people with slight wear and cracks in their teeth. If the abrasions are excessive, it may be necessary to cover those areas with filler. If there is sensitivity, it can be relieved with a mild pain reliever.

Until 24 hours after the application, you should stay away from very hot/cold drinks and foods, as well as dyed agents such as cigarettes, coffee, tea, cola.

What are the undesirable results?

  • Inability to obtain the desired whiteness due to the wrong diagnosis of your doctor... (especially in tetracycline colorations, whitening is limited in 4th type ones.)
  • Irritation and pain in the gums: It is usually a temporary condition. It improves within 3 days with the intervention of the physician, the application of the necessary agents and the interruption of the treatment.
  • Hypersensitivity in teeth: The problem is completely eliminated by applying protective and desensitizing agents (especially fluorine) and interrupting the treatment for a short time.
