What is the whitening of darkened teeth after devital whitening / root canal treatment?

Due to the loss of vitality of the teeth that have undergone root canal treatment, the light transmittance changes and may reflect the dark color of the canal filling placed inside. For this reason, whitening agents are applied to the inner surfaces of the teeth that have undergone root canal treatment.

How to whiten teeth that have darkened after devital whitening / root canal treatment?

  • The root canal treatment of the discolored tooth is checked with examination and x-ray and it is determined whether there is any inflammation. If there is no inflammation, whitening can be done.
  • The back part of the tooth is opened.
  • The fillings that cause discoloration are removed and the protective filling and whitening agent are placed.
  • 1-5 days is expected depending on the severity of the darkness. If necessary, the whitening agent is replenished.
  • After the whitening is finished, the protective drug is placed inside the tooth for 2 weeks and waited.
  • Permanent filling is done.
